Grid Manager – Bord Gáis Energy

We’re seeking a Grid Manager to take responsibility for the creation, socialisation and delivery of our grid strategy. In this role you’ll actively manage all aspects of Grid for Bord Gáis Energy’s portfolio and support the same in the UK. This includes connection applications, delivery, commissioning and optimization across the portfolio.

We’re seeking a Grid Manager to take responsibility for the creation, socialisation and delivery of our grid strategy. In this role you’ll actively manage all aspects of Grid for Bord Gáis Energy’s Portfolio and support same in the UK. This includes connection applications, delivery, commissioning and optimization across the portfolio.

Responsibilities
  • Work with Assets teams in Ireland and UK to develop Centrica’s grid asset strategy
  • Maintain a good working knowledge of key grid and regulatory developments for assets, feeding into consultation responses and industry lobby forums as an SME.
  • Aid the business in interpreting technical policy relating to the grid in both UK and Ireland, leveraging this to identify and refine opportunities for existing and new grid based projects
  • Represent Centrica on engagement with TSO & DSO and with key industry bodies
  • Identify suitable opportunities for both location and technology solutions on the grid
  • Work closely with other members of Assets team in scoping, assessing and negotiating the technical & commercial aspects and designs of thermal generator/solar/Turbine/BESS Supply, EPC & related tender submissions and contracts. Subsequently manage and track performance against requirements
  • Provide assumptions for value drivers of projects associated with network connection and operation costs, losses, constraint, curtailment, etc.
  • Carry out due diligence on potential investment opportunities that may arise, in conjunction with SMEs from different disciplines across the business
Here's what we’re looking for
  • Vast knowledge of UK and Ireland grid connections, testing & compliance process
  • Management and optimization of grid connection process at all stages from initial site selection, feasibility assessment and connection application submission, through offer process, design and functional specification to construction, commissioning/testing, energization and commercial operation
  • Strong understanding of all grid matters that affect value drivers (e.g. constraints, curtailments, firmness, TLAFs, etc.)
  • Proven ability to work independently to deadlines, seeking guidance from other team members when required
  • Strong experience dealing with stakeholders on different sides of grid connection process e.g. TSO/DSO/Equipment Manufacturers/Electrical Contractors
  • Experience of Site Feasibility Assessments
  • Knowledge of Grid Code and requirements Bord Gáis Energy must satisfy for various projects types (thermal/renewable/solar/flexible demand)
  • Knowledge of powers markets and project value drivers an advantage
