Qualifications

Job description

Electrical Design Engineer

Designer Group is looking to recruit an experienced electrical design engineer to join its growing engineering department. You will join a team of ambitions, innovative engineers challenged with delivering projects from our diverse range of clients.

The Engineering Team is an essential department within Designer Group and forms part of the foundation of every project. The Engineering Team is directly responsible for a number of key components in a project, delivering the highest standard of safety and quality. Designer Group is always at the forefront of the latest design and construction technology.

Overview of duties

  • Conduct site surveys and inspections to evaluate existing assets

  • Develop Front End Engineering Desing studies (FEED)

  • Develop full base of design drawings and documents

  • Undertake full electrical design including drawings, specifications and schedules and ensure compliance with the applicable standards and industry guides.

  • Undertake lighting and emergency lighting calculations using Dialux or Relux software.

  • Undertake full LV distribution modelling and calculations including short circuit, discrimination and cable studies. Trimble Amtech or E-Tap

  • Management of specialist design consultants for design and calculation elements, such as CT/VT skiing, protection studies and arc flash analysis

  • Attendance at client and design team meetings.

  • Review of the co-ordinated construction drawings and documentation

  • Review and respond to technical submittals

  • Review and respond to RFI’s

  • Detailed review of specialist supplier packages for compliance with project specification and applicable industry standards

  • Review BCAR preliminary inspection plan and coordinate with the quality team

  • Perform BCAR site inspections and reports

  • Monitor LEED and BREEAM requirements and submittals as required

  • Assistance with client demonstrations

  • Review and provide attendance during commissioning stage

  • Support the estimation team with key tenders. This would involve design reviews and verification

  • Collaborate with the DG sustainability team on internal project initiatives to support Net Zero 2035 ambitions

Key Requirements

  • A Level 7 Degree in Electrical Engineering/Electrical Services Engineering or Building Services Engineering.

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in electrical design engineering or a similar role.

  • Strong understanding of electrical systems from a design and construction perspective.

  • Capable of working as part of a team and on own initiative.

  • Good knowledge of the current electrical, fire alarm and emergency lighting standards within Ireland.

  • Knowledge of key engineering software packages such as Dialux or Relux, Amtech, AutoCAD, Revit and Navisworks.
