Job summary

A longstanding regional newspaper in Galway is seeking an experienced Editor to shape local news across digital and print platforms. Ideal candidates will have extensive journalism experience, excellent editing and writing skills, and the ability to create multimedia content. Responsibilities include generating stories, managing visuals, and leading the editorial team in the absence of the Editor. A solid understanding of media laws is essential. Qualifications

We are now seeking a Editor to join our editorial team and help shape the future of local news across digital and print platforms.

The Deputy Editor position is ideal for an experienced journalist who is ready to take on greater responsibility. It is a Senior Journalist role, with additional duties in the absence of the Editor.

Responsibilities include
  • Cover markings as and when required
  • News story and feature generation
  • Picture management and liaison
  • Page bundling and edition bundling
  • Contribute to digital engagement and growth strategies
  • Deputise for the Editor during absences
Skills and experience
  • A strong background in journalism at a senior level, national or local, with a track record in high-quality reporting
  • Excellent editing, writing and storytelling abilities
  • Experience in creating multi-media content and strong digital awareness
  • Ability to work under pressure, to manage deadlines and lead a team
  • Solid understanding of media law and Press Council of Ireland Code of Practice
