A community law centre in Dublin is seeking a Community Solicitor to provide vital legal advice and representation. You will oversee legal services, engage with the community through outreach clinics, and ensure compliance with legal standards. Ballymun Community Law Centre was established in 2002 to tackle unmet legal need in Ballymun. The Law Centre provides legal advice, representation, legal education, and Alternative Dispute Resolution services to the community. They aim to empower individuals to achieve equality and realise their human rights through increased access to the law. Their legal focus is on areas of unmet legal need in Ballymun. For example, they provide legal advice services in the areas of housing, employment, social welfare, and equality related issues. In this role you will play a key role in the community by empowering individuals to understand their rights and advocate for themselves, or where necessary opening a case file and representing someone. The Community Solicitor plays a central role in delivering Ballymun Community Law Centre mission of increasing access to justice. The successful candidate will provide legal advice and information to clients on a wide range of issues and undertake legal casework. They will provide outreach clinics, deliver information talks, and attend community events.
This role offers a high level of professional autonomy. The Community Solicitor will oversee the Law Centre’s legal services, shape strategic and policy priorities and guide casework strategy.
The Community Solicitor will report to the Manager of the Law Centre while working in accordance with the provisions of S.I. No. 103/2006 - The Solicitors Acts, 1954 to 2002 (Independent Law Centres) Regulations, 2006. They will have overall professional responsibility for the running of the legal service and its day‑to‑day operations.
They will work with part time, voluntary, Solicitor and the Legal Services subcommittee of the Board to ensure that services are delivered in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements and best practice. Ballymun Community Law Centre is committed to supporting professional development.
