Overview of role:
We are currently recruiting for a Clinical Nurse Manager III at UPMC Aut Even Hospital. The role is responsible for providing quality nursing services in line with standards of nursing practice and ensuring safe patient care. The ideal candidate should be energetic, enthusiastic, and capable of leading and motivating a team.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and management to the nursing staff on duty.
- Ensure implementation of patient pathways and placement procedures/policies.
- Proactively redeploy staff based on clinical and acuity requirements.
- Lead staff performance and promote high standards of nursing care.
- Support operational delivery of services and manage professional or operational issues.
- Empower nurse managers to deliver high-quality, safe patient care and achieve objectives.
- Ensure compliance with NMBI standards and develop nursing scope of practice.
- Maintain personal professional development and stay updated with evidence-based practices.
- Participate in ongoing development programs and share knowledge with the team.
- Lead Quality KPIs and initiatives in collaboration with the Quality Department.
- Report audit and KPI results monthly to ADONs.
- Ensure adherence to hospital policies, legislation, and regulatory requirements, including handling inspections.
- Review policies and practices regularly through audits and team engagement.
- Promote continuous quality improvement and innovation within the department.
- Set and monitor service objectives, standards, and KPIs, including hospital accreditation and risk management processes.
- Participate actively in hospital committees such as Theatre Users Group, Scheduling Committee, CPR, and Deteriorating Patient Group.
Operations:
- Provide professional leadership for nursing care, ensuring safety and efficiency.
- Contribute to planning and development of human and budget resources.
- Ensure evidence-based nursing care reflecting best practices.
- Develop relationships with healthcare facilities and monitor complaints and audit outcomes.
- Facilitate effective communication with patients, families, and staff.
- Conduct patient rounds and address care deficits.
- Implement hourly rounding and ensure best practices in handover and medical/nursing communication.
- Collaborate with medical staff and other departments to ensure safe unit management.
- Identify service development opportunities and liaise regularly with the ADON.
- Ensure systems for clinical and non-clinical services are effective and efficient.
- Contribute to annual reviews and be prepared for critical incidents and resuscitation procedures.
People Management:
- Lead and manage nursing and support staff, fostering a positive learning environment.
- Participate in recruitment, induction, and performance management.
- Promote staff development, morale, and team spirit.
- Recognize staff achievements and ensure accountability within the team.
Learning and Education:
- Support professional development opportunities for staff.
- Collaborate on educational initiatives and ensure nursing practice meets NMBI standards.
- Maintain records of training and facilitate study days and clinical placements.
Quality Improvement and Risk Management:
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, legislation, and regulatory standards.
- Encourage policy review, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support hospital accreditation and risk management programs.
- Promote evidence-based care and support research dissemination.
- Work with the multidisciplinary team on SOP development and support hospital sepsis initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Registered nurse with NMBI in the general division.
- Post-registration qualification in intensive care nursing or equivalent.
- At least 5 years' experience in an acute hospital, with management experience.
- Critical/acute care experience and experience managing deteriorating patients.
- Knowledge of service development and change management.
- Current ACLS certification or in pursuit of same.
- IT proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and audit/data collection tools.
- Qualifications in ALERT and Fire Warden training or in pursuit of same.
- Flexible, motivated, and capable of leading a team in an acute setting.
