Job Title: Child Psychiatrist (1 - 2 days per week) at The Talbot Group

Job Summary

The Child Psychiatrist is responsible for diagnosing and treating mental health conditions in children and adolescents, including mood disorders, anxiety, autism spectrum disorders, ADHD, depression, and other behavioural or emotional disorders. This position involves providing psychiatric evaluations, therapy, prescribing medications, and collaborating with families, schools, and other healthcare professionals to support the overall well-being of the child.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct Psychiatric Evaluations: Perform thorough psychiatric assessments of children and adolescents, including obtaining patient history, conducting interviews, and using diagnostic tools to assess mental health conditions.
  • Diagnosis and Treatment: Diagnose a variety of psychiatric disorders in children and adolescents and develop treatment plans, which may include psychotherapy, counselling, and medication management.
  • Medication Management: Prescribe and monitor the use of psychiatric medications, ensuring proper dosage, effectiveness, and management of potential side effects.
  • Therapeutic Interventions: Provide individual, family, or group therapy to children and their families to help address emotional and behavioural issues.
  • Collaboration with Other Professionals: Work closely with other healthcare providers, including pediatricians, psychologists, social workers, and educators, to ensure a comprehensive approach to treatment.
  • Support and Educate Families: Guide parents and caregivers on managing their child\'s mental health and behaviour, providing education about psychiatric conditions, treatment options, and coping strategies.
  • Crisis Intervention: Provide emergency psychiatric care when necessary, addressing critical situations involving self-harm, suicidal thoughts, or severe behavioural problems.
  • Research and Continued Education: Stay up to date with current research, best practices, and advancements in child psychiatry. Participate in continuing education and professional development.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Specialization in psychiatry and completion of a residency program in child and adolescent psychiatry.
  • Licensure to practice psychiatry in Ireland. Strong understanding of childhood development, emotional health, and psychiatric conditions.
  • Ability to work effectively with children, adolescents, and their families in a compassionate, non-judgmental manner.
  • Knowledge of psychopharmacology, as well as psychotherapy techniques suited for young patients.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
