Position Overview

The School of Histories and Humanities at Trinity College Dublin seeks to appoint a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Modern South American History. The post will be based in the Department of History.

The primary responsibilities include:

  • Teaching and research in any aspect of the history of South America from the early nineteenth century to the present
  • Contributing to the School’s M.Phil programmes in Environmental History and International History
  • Supervising postgraduate research in the candidate’s area of expertise

The successful applicant will be expected to establish a strong record of research and publication in modern South American history and to complement the Department’s existing strengths in environmental, socio-economic, cultural, or political history.

Salary: Assistant Professor scale (€42,925–€102,556 per annum), aligned with current Government pay policy (link )

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must hold a PhD in History or a related field. Preference will be given to candidates whose research and teaching expertise:

  • Complements the Department’s existing strengths
  • Demonstrates potential for high-quality research outputs and publications
  • Can contribute to graduate and undergraduate teaching in modern South American history
