Assistant Principal (School Improvement Specialist)

Position Purpose:
The Assistant Principal supports the Principal by providing leadership and oversight in the administration of the educational program. This role aims to enhance student development and achievement in line with the policies set by the Board of Education, administrative guidelines, and applicable laws. Key responsibilities include managing school discipline, facilities, and the overall daily operations of a middle school.
Essential Functions:
- Assist in the formulation and implementation of school programs aligned with district goals
- Lead and direct staff in evaluating and enhancing educational programs, both curricular and extracurricular
- Foster a safe, engaging school environment conducive to learning and cooperative curriculum development
- Manage the preparation and execution of class and master schedules, as well as extracurricular activities
- Ensure compliance with Board policies and procedures within the school
- Pursue ongoing professional development and stay current with educational advancements
- Encourage and support staff professional growth and the adoption of innovative teaching strategies
- Oversee assigned departments and coordinate staff and program leaders to enhance instructional programs and practices
- Conduct assessments of student learning and collaborate with teachers to adapt instructional methods to meet diverse student needs
- Participate in staff recruitment, selection, and management, adhering to human resource guidelines and contractual obligations
- Engage staff in program evaluation and planning
- Promote and facilitate parental involvement and maintain effective communication with students and parents
- Monitor and uphold school standards for student conduct and attendance
- Supervise and evaluate staff performance in alignment with district evaluation protocols
Additional Duties:
Perform tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal, Superintendent, or other central office administrators
Equipment Used:
Utilize standard office equipment, including computers, printers, copiers, fax machines, and telephones
Travel Requirements:
Travel as needed to district buildings, professional meetings, and extracurricular activities
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- In-depth knowledge of high school curriculum, operations, and discipline best practices
- Proficiency in administration, program evaluation, and staff supervision
- Expertise in educational law and data analysis
- Strong communication, project management, and organizational skills
- Ability to lead effectively, assess one’s performance, and establish collaborative working relationships
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:
Work is primarily in standard office and school environments
Supervision of extracurricular activities required
Qualifications:
- Required: GAPSC Tier I or Tier II Certification in Educational Leadership
- GaPSC teaching certification in a relevant subject area
- Valid Georgia Motor Vehicle Operator's License or reliable transportation
- Master’s Degree in School Administration or a related field
- Preferred: Advanced degree (Sixth year, Doctorate) in a related field
- Extensive teaching experience at the middle or high school level preferred
- Prior administrative experience is desirable
Employment Terms:
- FLSA Status: Exempt
- 210-day contract
- Placement on the DCS salary schedule based on experience and GaPSC certification level
