Job Objectives
We are seeking an experienced ADON to join the expanding team within Nua Healthcare. The ADON will work with adults in a well-established Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit based in North Cork, collaborating with a diverse multidisciplinary team.
Main Duties
- Ensure ICPs are up to date and that services are delivered to high quality and safety standards.
- Adhere to local safety statements (risk assessments and standard operating procedures) at all times.
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
- Use company IT systems responsibly and protect passwords and data in line with GDPR guidelines.
- Act responsibly and cooperate with regulators in the best interests of the service and service users.
- Maintain the highest level of infection control as directed by policy and national guidance.
- Work according to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) Code of Professional Conduct; assess care needs, develop, implement, and evaluate care plans with patients, carers, and other professionals.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Provide nursing assessment of patients admitted to the service.
- Participate in ward rounds and multi-professional meetings; support the nursing team in these roles.
- Ensure high standards of nursing care in clinical procedures and treatment, including medicines management.
- Maintain high standard of nursing care during procedures through supervision and instruction.
- Ensure patients' rights are maintained under the Mental Health Act.
- Assist the Director of Nursing in staff awareness of individual care plans and activities; supervise and appraise junior staff; take charge in the director's absence.
- Lead and communicate within the service and MDT; report professional issues as necessary in line with NMBI codes of conduct.
- Participate in planning and preparation for Mental Health Commission (MHC) visits and inspections.
- Collaborate with outside agencies to ensure effective communication across services.

Qualifications and Knowledge
- Registered on, or eligible to be on, the Psychiatric Division of the NMBI.
- Post-registration qualification in healthcare management (QQI Level 8 or higher) or working towards/contractual undertaking to acquire within 3 years from appointment.
- Knowledge of the Health Act 2007, Mental Health Act 2001 and Mental Health Amendment Act 2018, Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005, and related standards and codes of practice.
Experience and Skills
- Minimum 5+ years post-qualification/registration psychiatric nursing experience.
- Minimum 3+ years in a management position within psychiatric nursing.
- Empathy, strong organizational skills, and self-motivation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and IT skills.
- Ability to work as part of a multi-departmental team; willingness to learn; reliable and flexible.
