We care about our colleagues, customers, business, environment and community. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Health, Safety and Wellbeing to join our team. This leadership role will work closely with our Director, shaping and delivering the health, safety and wellbeing strategy across our operations in the South.

Salary: Up to £85,000

Location: Harefield

Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and implementation of health, safety and wellbeing policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Provide senior leadership and oversight to the health, safety and wellbeing team, supporting their development and performance.
  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement and accountability in health, safety and wellbeing across all operational areas.
  • Oversee escalated incident investigations, ensuring root cause analysis is conducted in a fair and just manner, and that corrective actions are implemented.
  • Engage with senior stakeholders to influence and embed health and safety priorities across the business.
  • Monitor and report on health and safety performance, using data and insights to inform decision‑making and drive improvements.
  • Support organisational change initiatives, ensuring health, safety and wellbeing considerations are fully integrated.
  • Promote diversity, equality and inclusion within health, safety and wellbeing practices and across the wider team.
Qualifications

Extensive experience in a senior health and safety leadership role, ideally gained within the utilities or construction sector. You will need to hold a NEBOSH Level 6 Diploma (or equivalent) and be confident leading and developing teams, supporting others, and managing challenging situations in a positive and constructive way. Strong interpersonal skills are essential, as you'll be engaging with a wide range of stakeholders and influencing at all levels of the organisation. You should be able to demonstrate solid experience in incident investigation and report writing, with a fair and balanced approach to identifying root causes. A practical understanding of diversity, equality and inclusion is important, as is the ability to communicate clearly—both in writing and in person—and present with confidence to varied audiences. An analytical mindset will help you use data effectively to guide decisions and shape improvements, and you will naturally role‑model empathy, professionalism and integrity in everything you do. A full UK driving licence is essential.

The role covers the South East and South; your location can be relatively flexible, provided you are happy to travel for a significant portion of the week. Clients include Southern Water, South East Water and South West Water.
