Technical Manager AI Engineering Contract - Outside IR35

DataBuzz is recruiting a Technical Manager AI Engineering to join a prestigious organisation. We’re looking for a hands-on technical leader with strong expertise in cloud-native engineering, AI frameworks, and secure platform services.

In this role, you'll lead teams to design, build, and scale AI-enabling services and APIs on Microsoft Azure, guide architectural decision-making, and ensure solutions are robust, secure, and compliant. You'll also play a key role in mentoring developers, fostering innovation, and helping shape enterprise-scale AI systems.

What you'll Do

• Build scalable, fault-tolerant cloud-native services on Microsoft Azure.
• Develop secure, well-documented public APIs and SDKs for developers inside and outside the organisation.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver data pipelines, orchestration, and service APIs.
• Embed security best practices, including authentication, authorization, and data privacy.
• Lead design reviews, code reviews, and architecture discussions to ensure engineering excellence.
• Mentor and coach junior developers, fostering continuous learning and innovation.
• Work across teams on AI solutions, including model deployment, training, and AI tooling development.
• Coordinate & facilitate project-level agile ceremonies for scrum teams.
• Contribute and run the planning including lead-up, planning event, and outcomes.
• Guide projects and objectives to deliver against aggressive timelines, partnering with scrum masters, product owners, and engineering to ensure successful delivery against commitments and complex projects.
• Develop and manage project plans, documentation, risk mitigation, cross-team initiatives.
• Act as the liaison between cross-functional teams to drive end-to-end development of products.
• Be a technical thought-leader, constantly improving, developing creative solutions to foster agile scrum and scaled agile and other productivity methodologies.
• Translate business requirements into technical tasks and track their executions.

Skills & Experience

• Strong project and program management skills.
• Software Engineering 12+ years of experience in platform or cloud-native service development using Microsoft and .NET technologies.
• Cloud & PaaS Experience with Microsoft Azure and services such as Azure Functions, Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), and Azure API Management.
• APIs: Expertise in RESTful API design, versioning, testing, and life cycle management.
• Security: Proficient in securing APIs, managing authentication/authorization, and implementing data privacy practices.
• AI & ML: Experience working with Large Language Models (LLMs), understanding trade-offs between performance, cost, and capability.
• AI Techniques: Knowledge of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), agent orchestration, prompt engineering, and tool calling.
• AI Standards: Familiarity with Model Context Protocol (MCP) and Agent2Agent (A2A).
• Machine Learning: Knowledge of algorithms including regression, classification, clustering, and deep learning.
• AI Frameworks & Tools: Experience with Python, PyTorch, and TensorFlow.
• AI Orchestration: Familiar with tools like AI Foundry and Semantic Kernel.
• AI Coding Assistants: Fluent in using GitHub Copilot and prompt engineering to accelerate development tasks.
• Testing & Validation: Experience with tools for automated testing and evaluation of AI outputs (a strong plus).
• Ethical AI & ComplianceAwareness of AI safety, bias detection, explainability, and compliance with NIST AI RMF and EU AI Act.
• Collaboration & Leadership: Excellent problem-solving skills, Agile team experience, and proven ability to mentor and lead across global teams.
