Cardiff is a vibrant and growing city, and we have an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to join the Neighbourhood Services Team as a Street Scene Operative Driver. Our team is committed to delivering excellent service to Cardiff’s residents and visitors, ensuring high standards in street cleansing, maintenance, and environmental quality.

About the job

As a Street Scene Operative Driver, you will provide various street cleansing services throughout the city. Responsibilities include searching and removing incorrectly presented or dumped bagged waste, digitally recording all work and uploading evidence of waste searches.

Tasks also involve street cleaning activities such as collecting litter, handling split bags, removing dog faeces and deposited items from highways (including fly tipping and bulky items), emptying litter bins, removing leaf fall, sweeping, and operating power tools.

The position involves maintaining records, using technology such as tablets or smart phone devices for daily task assignments, and documenting all completed work.

You will be responsible for operating and maintaining vehicles, serving as the primary point of contact for customers on environmental matters, and demonstrating a strong commitment to health and safety standards wearing the appropriate PPE and uniform.

What We Are Looking For From You
  • Experience of operating power tools or willingness to undertake required training.
  • Experience in front line environmental operations and/or cleaning services.
  • A level of education or training which allows the understanding of risk assessment and workplace instructions.
  • Ability to keep records accurately and use technology to input data.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and meet set deadlines, standards, and targets.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace.
  • Self-motivated, flexible, and adaptable approach to work.
  • Commitment to excellent customer service and the Council’s Equality and Diversity Policy.
  • Physically fit to undertake all elements of the role.
  • Full valid driving licence.
  • Willingness and ability to work regular evenings and weekends as required.
Additional information
  • The are multiple posts which are required to work from different depots: Lamby Way Depot, Brindley Road/Coleridge Road Depot, or Millicent Street Depot. The post requires you to work from any designated Council facility.
  • The post may involve shift work, including weekends and bank holidays (excluding Christmas Day).
  • Essential driving Full driving license is required
