A leading highways service provider in the UK is seeking a Senior Engineer for the Development Management team. This pivotal role involves overseeing complex highway infrastructure projects, ensuring legal compliance, mentoring junior staff, and maintaining stakeholder relationships. The ideal candidate will have a relevant degree or equivalent experience, proficiency in project management, and knowledge of highway legislation. As a Senior Engineer within the Development Management team, you will take on a pivotal leadership role in delivering the Essex Highways Integrated Services contract. Working in close partnership with Essex County Council, you will drive the successful delivery of developer‑funded highway infrastructure—ensuring schemes are technically robust, legally compliant, and fully adoptable while actively supporting wider planning, growth and regeneration ambitions across the county. This strategic position combines technical authority with stakeholder leadership. You will oversee complex, high‑value and high‑risk development projects from initial technical approval through construction to final highway adoption, mentor and support junior engineers, and maintain high performance standards within the team. Acting as a key point of contact for internal teams, developers, consultants, strategic partners and external providers, you will build strong working relationships and represent the team with confidence and credibility. You will also deputise for the Team Leader when required, contributing to operational decision‑making and ensuring continuity of leadership.
