Job summary

A leading nuclear engineering firm located in the East Midlands is seeking a Senior Engineer - Core Design and Performance. In this role, you will develop core physics models and deliver technical assessments to ensure our SMR reactor meets safety standards. The ideal candidate will have a master’s in Nuclear Engineering, and experience in reactor physics with proficiency in Python. This role offers a salary between £48,000 and £62,500 with a range of benefits, including a 12.5% performance-related bonus and a comprehensive pension plan.

Qualifications

  • Experience in reactor physics and/or thermal hydraulics analysis.
  • Knowledge of nuclear safety case development and regulatory practices.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and refine core physics and thermal-hydraulic models.
  • Deliver technical analysis across physics and thermal hydraulics.
  • Provide technical supervision and informal coaching to junior analysts.

Skills

Proficiency in Python for pre/post-processing analysis scripts
Excellent technical writing and communication skills
Strong planning, organisation, and risk management skills

Education

Master’s degree in Nuclear Engineering, Physics, or closely related discipline
