This is a role for someone who thrives on technical depth, cross-functional collaboration, and seeing designs through from enquiry to commissioning.**The Role**Working under the direction of the Principal Mechanical Engineer, you’ll play a key role in interpreting client specifications and translating them into detailed, high-quality engineering designs.You’ll be involved throughout the full project lifecycle — from enquiry and proposal support through to execution and commissioning — ensuring our systems are technically robust, compliant, and aligned to client and regulatory standards.**What You’ll Be Responsible For*** Interpreting and digesting customer technical requirements and contract documentation* Producing process calculations, pump sizing calculations and hydraulic designs* Creating and defining PFDs and P&IDs* Producing equipment data sheets, specifications, and schedules* Selecting and detailing valves, instruments and associated equipment* Supporting plant layout development, including: + Pipework system design + Chemical storage and transfer systems + Compressed air treatment systems + Pneumatic control system designs* Reviewing supplier proposals and carrying out technical appraisals* Supporting proposal scope preparation and engaging with clients pre- and post-contract* Reviewing Process Control Philosophies and Functional Design Specifications* Resolving design issues during manufacture, installation and commissioning* Ensuring compliance with ISO 9001:2015 and internal QA procedures* Supporting CDM responsibilities through hazard elimination and risk mitigation in design* Contributing to document control and design review processesYou’ll work closely with Mechanical Designers, Electrical Engineers, Procurement, Production, QA, Project Managers and global colleagues — as well as external clients, vendors and inspectors.**What We’re Looking For****Essential:*** HNC or HND in Mechanical Engineering (Degree desirable)* Strong ability to interpret complex technical specifications and diagrams* Confident representing the company professionally with customers* Strong problem-solving skills and creative thinking* Good understanding of manufacturing and production processes* Commercial awareness and understanding of engineering costs* High attention to detail* Strong communication and reporting skills* Well organised with the ability to prioritise effectively* Good level of computer literacy**Desirable:*** Experience with electrochlorination packages or chemical process equipment* Structural steelwork construction and welding knowledge* Knowledge of ATEX, IECEx and HAZOP* Familiarity with major petrochemical specifications (e.g. BP, Shell)* AutoCAD experienceThis role offers the opportunity to:* Work on technically challenging water treatment systems* Be involved from concept through to commissioning* Develop specialist knowledge in electrochlorination and water technologies* Influence design standards and continuous improvement* Collaborate across disciplines in a quality-driven engineering environmentIf you’re motivated by solving complex engineering problems and want to contribute to high-impact water technology solutions, we’d love to hear from you.#LI-Hybrid#LI-CY01Join the global Xylem team to be a part of innovative technology solutions transforming water usage, conservation, and re-use.
