Job description
Health Care Support Worker

The closing date is 28 December 2025

The role of a Health Care Support Worker is to assist, provide and maintain a high standard of patient care in the Day Surgery Unit & Endoscopy department for patients pre‑peri‑ and post‑procedure, including decontamination.

This role is a primary function in supporting the nursing team for the optimal care of our patients in procedure rooms, recovery, discharge, decontamination and occasional reception, always following Trust and national guidance.

The delivery of high quality, effective and compassionate healthcare to the patients of Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust is the most important objective of the organisation.

Main duties of the job

The Andover Day Surgery Unit & Endoscopy is a diverse, multidisciplinary environment which requires flexible and adaptable skills, an aptitude to learn and a motivation to develop your own skills.

You will be assisting in a vast range of endoscopy procedures which will include colonoscopy, gastroscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy as well as generally working alongside the nursing team in all other areas.

Decontamination will also play a part in your role, and you will support and assist the decontamination team when required, in providing a specialised decontamination and tracking of endoscopes. Therefore, it is vital that you acquire all the necessary skills & knowledge to be able to work independently in both environments within a very busy unit.

The department offers a supportive and learning environment which endeavours to constantly develop the service, in order that its patients receive the highest quality and most up to date care.

This is a very patient‑focused service, and the successful candidate will need excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work across a range of different environments. The primary base is Andover Hospital, although on occasion you may be required to work individual shifts at one of the other Trust sites if necessary.
