About the Role

We are currently recruiting for a Facilities Technician to support the effective delivery of Facilities Management services to one of our key strategic clients, based at a static site in Cheadle, UK. The ideal candidate will come from a maintenance or multi‑trade background and be seeking a varied role within a global facilities management organisation that offers both autonomy and a strong work‑life balance. This hands‑on role combines technical responsibilities with contractor supervision and front‑of‑house duties. You will oversee specialist subcontractors—particularly for planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and statutory inspections—ensuring their performance meets required standards, coordinating access, and supporting reporting on key performance indicators (KPIs) to both the client and internal teams.

In addition to contractor oversight, you will personally carry out a range of general maintenance tasks, particularly reactive interventions, in a self‑performance capacity. The role also includes reception and administrative responsibilities, such as managing visitor access, answering incoming calls, and providing a professional and welcoming first point of contact for all site guests. Your flexibility, technical expertise, and strong communication skills will be key to ensuring smooth daily operations on site.

Main Responsibilities will include:
  • Supervise external contractors for planned maintenance, compliance testing, and statutory inspections.
  • Ensure contractor work is delivered in line with safety, quality, and timing expectations.
  • Perform general building maintenance tasks directly, with a focus on reactive issues.
  • Support routine site inspections, fault diagnosis, and first‑level repairs.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and contractor interventions.
  • Assist the Facility Coordinator with reporting and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Promote and ensure compliance with health and safety standards on site.
Key Focuses
  • Contribute to a safety‑first culture, ensuring health, safety and wellbeing are top priorities.
  • Deliver logged and requested tasks in coordination with the Macro FM24 Helpdesk, ensuring client and customer requests, concerns or complaints are effectively addressed.
  • Carry out scheduled preventive maintenance activities via designated supply chain partners.
  • Execute daily and routine maintenance and compliance tasks.
Facility Function
  • Ensure the facility remains fully operational by performing maintenance repair works.
  • Promote and actively seek sustainable work processes and products.
  • Support asset register and assets lifecycle management.
  • Assist with Capex plans for FM related assets.
Tools & Materials Management
  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of tools and equipment.
  • Manage on‑site inventory of maintenance supplies and spare parts.
  • Monitor stock levels and coordinate restocking with the procurement team when necessary.
Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Activities
  • Support investigations into health, safety and quality incidents, including near misses and accidents.
  • Uphold health and safety standards by inspecting the site and reviewing supplier risk assessments.
  • Report actions, observations and near misses.
  • Support permit‑to‑work processes and risk assessments.
  • Ensure compliance with Macro/client requirements and local legislation.
Projects and Continuous Improvement
  • Assist the client with minor project implementations, including relocations.
  • Ensure all FM‑related projects are completed on time.
  • Identify opportunities for service improvement and operational efficiency.
  • Participate in internal audits and reviews to support quality and performance enhancements.
  • Help implement best practices and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Communication
  • Adhere to and promote Macro core values and behaviours.
  • Share ideas for business process improvements with a positive and constructive attitude.
Front‑of‑House & Administrative Support
  • Act as first point of contact for site visitors, ensuring professional and friendly reception service.
  • Manage visitor registration process, issue badges and coordinate with security as needed.
  • Answer and redirect incoming phone calls or messages to relevant personnel.
  • Coordinate meeting room bookings and assist with hospitality arrangements when required.
  • Support the facilities team with basic administrative tasks such as filing, ordering supplies and data entry.
  • Ensure the reception area and front‑of‑house spaces are kept clean, organised and presentable at all times.
Soft Skills / Personal Attributes
  • Ability to prioritise tasks, especially in a fast‑paced industrial environment.
  • Capable of working under pressure and managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong sense of confidentiality, particularly in front‑of‑house or reception duties.
  • Solid experience in building maintenance (multi‑skilled: electrical, HVAC, plumbing or general services).
  • Ability to work independently and manage tasks proactively.
  • Experience working with or supervising subcontractors is an advantage.
  • Understanding of compliance requirements and maintenance standards.
  • Strong communication and problem‑solving skills.
  • Comfortable using basic IT tools for reporting and communication.
