Job description

Padocare – Reimagining Care, One Record at a Time

About Padocare
At Padocare, we’re revolutionising geriatric care by creating an intuitive, accessible digital platform for care homes and domiciliary services. Our mission is to replace fragmented paper records with a unified, user-friendly system that empowers caregivers, complies with NHS standards, and prioritises the dignity of elderly patients.

About the Opportunity
As a UI/UX Designer Volunteer, you will design and refine the user experience of our digital social records platform, ensuring it meets the unique needs of care providers, clinicians, and elderly users. Your work will bridge the gap between complex healthcare workflows and simple, compassionate design.

Responsibilities

  • User Research: Conduct interviews and surveys with care staff, NHS partners, and families to identify pain points in existing systems.
  • Wireframing & Prototyping: Create low-fidelity wireframes and high-fidelity prototypes (using Figma) for features like patient record dashboards or medication tracking.
  • Accessibility Design: Ensure compliance with WCAG 2.1 standards to accommodate elderly users and caregivers with varying tech literacy.
  • Usability Testing: Organize testing sessions with care home staff to validate designs and iterate based on feedback.
  • Visual Design: Develop a consistent, empathetic visual language (icons, color schemes, typography) aligned with healthcare professionalism.
  • Collaboration: Work with .NET developers to translate designs into functional features, ensuring technical feasibility.
  • Documentation: Build a UI/UX style guide and design system for future scalability.
  • Stakeholder Demos: Present design concepts to non-technical stakeholders (e.g., care home managers) in clear, jargon-free terms.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Figma, Adobe XD, or similar design tools.
  • Interest in healthcare, elderly care, or social impact technology.
  • Understanding of user-centered design principles and accessibility standards.
  • Ability to simplify complex workflows (e.g., medication management) into intuitive interfaces.
  • Strong communication skills to advocate for user needs with developers and project managers.
  • Portfolio showcasing UX case studies or design projects (academic or personal work accepted).

Duration

  • Time Commitment: 3–5 hours per day (flexible scheduling) / 20 hour week.
  • Project Length: 3 months (60 working days).
  • Location: Fully remote.

Acquired Experience and Skills

  • Healthcare UX Expertise: Learn to design for regulated environments with high-stakes user needs.
  • Accessibility Mastery: Gain hands-on experience implementing WCAG standards for elderly users.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work alongside developers, project managers, and healthcare professionals.
  • Portfolio Development: Add real-world projects like a care home record system redesign to your portfolio.
  • Impact Visibility: See your designs improve daily workflows for caregivers and patients.

Endorsements
Upon successful contribution, you’ll receive:

  • Permission to list Padocare on your LinkedIn profile under “Volunteer Experience.”
  • Opportunity to showcase approved design work in your portfolio (excluding sensitive data).
  • A LinkedIn testimonial highlighting your role in creating patient-centric healthcare technology.
