Role Overview:
Due to ongoing expansion and opportunities within the specialisation, we are looking for an enthusiastic, self-driven individual with extensive experience in both Obsolescence Management (OM) and general team management to join our company in the role of OM Department Manager. Reporting directly to the Head of OM, this role offers the chance to work on various OM projects and deliverables, and to contribute to the success of future solutions that are designed to assist our clients in managing obsolescence proactively through the application of various in-house tools and support services. Day-to-day, you will work closely with our bespoke customer tools and OM monitoring and reporting processes, applying your experience and knowledge to maintain and enhance their functionality. You will have responsibility for overseeing the OM team, attending to their development and training needs and acting as a conduit between the Head of OM and the wider team in ensuring that all deliverables are completed on time, quality and cost. You will also play a pivotal role in assisting the Head of OM in understanding how our current products and services can be further developed to meet the present and future needs of an everchanging OM environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of OM staff, developing their skills and ensuring their individual and combined outputs are aligned with our client expectations for accurate and timely proactive advice, monitoring and reporting.
  • Work with the Head of OM to identify and prosecute opportunities for efficiency and improvement across the OM department.
  • Implement, optimise and troubleshoot OM working processes and deliverables.
  • Collaborate with teams across the business to deliver efficient, tailored Through Life Support solutions that have full OM integration.
  • Participate in the design, testing and deployment of new OM software applications and services.
  • Mentor staff members in all aspects of OM best practice and OM developments.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in all aspects of OM, including OM planning, OM tools and proactive processes, OM delivery and OM mitigation/resolution.
  • Ability to interpret and understand complex Bills of Material.
  • Demonstrate experience in using engineering knowledge to interpret components using its characteristics and specifications.
  • Demonstrable experience in researching and implementing component obsolescence solutions utilising the extended supply chain.
  • A thorough understanding of IEC62402:2019 and of its day-to-day practical application in managing obsolescence.
  • Certification as either a Fellow of the International Institute of Obsolescence Management (FIIOM) or Associated Member of the International Institute of Obsolescence Management (AIIOM) is desirable.
  • Proven track record in managing small or medium teams. Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, organisation and the ability to work effectively either alone or within a team.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel and Access skills.
  • Experience of working in an engineering discipline within the Defence and/or Aerospace sectors is desirable but not essential.
  • The ability to understand and interpret NATO Stock Numbers (NSNs) is desirable but not essential.

Additional Information:
All staff are subject to a DBS check, which will be processed during your probationary period. Employment is contingent on achieving DBS clearance. Under some circumstances the successful applicant may also need to achieve full Security Clearance. You must also be eligible to work in the UK.
