Job description

Location: Newmarket, Suffolk

Salary: in the region of £33,000 (depending on experience)

Contract: Full time (35 hours a week), Permanent

The Country Land and Business Association (CLA) is a dynamic, forward thinking membership organisation for owners of land, property and rural businesses, who has been championing the interests of rural England and Wales for over 100 years. CLA members own or manage around half the rural land in England and Wales and more than 250 different types of businesses.

We are now looking for a Membership Relations Manager to join us in our East Office at a pivotal time for the rural sector. The successful candidate will work closely with the Regional Director and regional team. As Membership Relations Manager your role will be to improve the membership experience and increase the levels of member engagement. This is largely an account management role, central in implementing the processes and technology to support the delivery of a first-rate member retention strategy.

Key Focus and Responsibilities

A core part of this role will involve engaging with new and existing members over the phone, building strong relationships, understanding their business needs, and ensuring they maximise the benefits of CLA membership.

You will be a proactive professional with good computer literacy, to drive key retention strategies, including onboarding, proactive outreach, and offboarding. The role also involves CRM management, data analysis, and member research to strengthen engagement.

Additional responsibilities include liaising with CLA’s policy teams, supporting the sales team, attending events, and providing regular retention reports to regional and central teams.

Ideally you would be able to demonstrate an understanding of the breadth of issues affecting rural businesses and have experience of working in the rural sector.

The Location, Team, and Working Arrangements

The role is based from a beautiful office on a rural estate near Newmarket. Some flexible working will be available on request but contact time in the office would be required each week, with a requirement to travel across the East at times, to attend events and meetings and visit members.

You will be working in a small, friendly, multidisciplinary team who are very passionate about the organisation and rural affairs in general. You will also work collaboratively with the wider CLA team of over one hundred individuals across England and Wales.

What We Can Offer

The CLA offers its staff a large number of benefits which include:

  • 25 days holiday (plus bank holidays), increasing to 27 after 2 years' service, and 30 days after 3 years' service
  • Enrolment into an excellent pension scheme, offering Employer's contribution of up to 10% of salary
  • Work place benefits such as payment of flu vaccinations, eye tests and option for Payroll Giving
  • Access to an online wellness portal, including Employees Assistance Programme
  • Discount offers at over 800 retailers
  • Access to a private 24 hour GP service

For further information, please call or email Cath Crowther, Regional Director on cath.crowther@cla.org.uk or 07557 576127.
