Job description

Join the Meliora Team - Doctor (Head Injury & Concussion Care Service)

This is an exciting opportunity to join us at Meliora Medical Group.

The leading medical services provider for the education sector, our range of medical services are used by over 100 of the UK’s leading schools & clubs and we are growing rapidly each year. Our vision is that millions of children and adolescents around the world will have access to one or more of our services, providing them with the gold-standard medical care they deserve.

Role: Doctor (Head Injury & Concussion Care Service)

Salary: Per patient or per session rate

What is the job?

We are always on the look out for doctors to join our growing team of concussion specialists. Doctors working in our Head Injury & Concussion Care service perform an essential role in guiding injured players through return to sport guidance from the point of injury to full return to play. They provide early review of injured patients, providing advice and education to optimise recovery, advise on the safe gradual return to sport and give final clearance to return to full sport. All players are managed in line with National Governing Body guidance.

The successful applicant will be provided with training to safely manage patients and will have access to advice from senior clinicians via a Clinical Nurse/Physio Specialist and an established MDT referral pathway. There will be scope for further training and progression with experience.

The role is flexible in terms of both time commitment and days of the week worked and can be fitted around current work commitments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake initial assessments providing confirmation of diagnosis and advice to optimise recovery
  • Undertake follow-up appointments to check recovery and advise on graduated return to sport and return to full sport at the relevant timepoints
  • Recognise patients who are not making a routine recovery and refer cases of concern to senior clinicians/MDT
  • Engage with the wider medical team for ongoing education and development

What are we looking for?

We are looking for doctors who understand the current landscape of concussion and, ideally, have experience working in sport and with children. We are looking for doctors who aren’t afraid to take ownership and accountability, who are able to work independently when required and who are excited by the prospect of being part of a rapidly growing service in an increasingly important role.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • GMC registration with a license to practice
  • Minimum 5 years post-qualification
  • Demonstrable experience in the sporting setting and with managing head injuries
  • Appropriate medical indemnity
