Job description
Project Brief – Costume Design & Make

We are seeking to engage an experienced costume designer and maker to work on the production of ‘Oliver’ being staged in Grangemouth Town Hall in November 2024. This is a freelance position for someone with proven experience and passion for working in Youth Theatre, and the ability to costume a main stage production whilst developing the skills and confidence of young people. This production will bring both the junior and senior groups together in one show.

The post holder will be responsible for the design and make of costume for the production including:

  • Monitoring of the costume budget, ensuring that the terms of the contract are fulfilled within agreed budgets and providing regular financial updates.
  • Ensuring regular communication with the Director and Producer and attending production meetings as required.
  • Responsibility for making the costumes for the cast including design, measuring, fitting and adjustments. Hires of costumes should be kept to a minimum and agreed in advance with the Producer. We have a wardrobe store and items should initially be sought from there prior to purchasing new materials.
  • Maintaining the costumes during show week including any minor repairs/alterations.
  • Attendance at all dress rehearsals and performances.
  • Attendance at some rehearsal sessions for measuring and fitting.
  • Creating a positive working environment of mutual respect for all parties

Dates and Times:

Sundays

Juniors 10am -12noon

Seniors 1pm – 4pm

Term 3: 18 th August – 6 th October 2024

Term 4: 27th October – 10 th November

Show Week: Grangemouth Town Hall

Monday 11th – Get In

Tuesday 12th – November – Dress

Wed 13th – November - Dress

Thurs 14th Nov – Show 1

Fri 15th November Show 2

Sat 16th Show 3 and show 4

You will be required to attend rehearsals for measuring/fitting etc as required. You must attend the technical and dress rehearsals and all performances.

All other making/sourcing can be done outwith these times.

Venue(s):

Rehearsals and performances will take place in Grangemouth Town Hall. Other local facilities will be resourced should these venues be unavailable at any point

Fee: £1500.00 (One thousand five hundred pounds)

Terms: This is a Freelance position. Postholders will need to be in possession of, or willing to obtain, PVG Registration. The post-holder must maintain adequate Public Liability Insurance and shall produce evidence of this prior to commencing this engagement. Adequate Liability shall provide cover for not less than £5,000,000 (five million pounds) per claim for each policy.
