Position Overview: We are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant in Forensic Psychiatry to join our esteemed team in Manchester. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and compassionate psychiatrist to lead and contribute to the delivery of high-quality mental health services for individuals within forensic settings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical leadership and expertise in forensic psychiatry, overseeing the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of individuals within forensic mental health services.
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams in the development and implementation of comprehensive care plans tailored to the complex needs and risks of individuals within forensic settings.
  • Conduct psychiatric assessments, formulate accurate diagnoses, and prescribe appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions.
  • Provide expert witness testimony and consultation to legal proceedings, including court appearances and mental health tribunals.
  • Supervise and mentor junior medical staff, including specialty trainees, medical students, and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Participate in service development initiatives, quality improvement projects, and research activities to enhance the delivery of forensic mental health services.

Requirements:

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and inclusion on the Specialist Register for Psychiatry (or eligibility for registration).
  • Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (or equivalent qualification).
  • Significant experience working as a Consultant Psychiatrist in forensic mental health services, with a strong track record of clinical excellence and leadership.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the assessment, diagnosis, and management of mental health disorders within forensic settings, including personality disorders, psychosis, and risk assessment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and engage with individuals within forensic settings.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and engagement in clinical governance activities.
