Job description
Director - Talent Acquisition for Europe & Asia Pacific at CIBC Capital Markets
Key Accountabilities
Regional Human Resource Administration and Coordination
  • Respond to employee queries on HR-related matters, escalating as required to the Senior HR Business Partner
  • Support HR Analyst in delivering HR administration for the region including new hires, leavers, employee benefits, invoicing, personnel files/records management, reference requests, HR system and payroll
  • Liaise with the Organisation Design and Total Rewards teams to evaluate job roles as required
  • Coordinate with internal CIBC departments (e.g., Business Management, Technology) to ensure staff movements are documented and onboarding, leaver and change processes are completed; attend weekly calls
  • Organise employee events such as Lunch and Learns
  • Manage the delivery of the HR Induction Programme, including regular presentation slide updates
  • Manage the relocation process for internal moves to the region
Human Resource Policy and Governance
  • Provide HR policy interpretation and counsel to employees and People Managers to ensure adherence to Corporate HR policies, programs and standards
  • Support and guide managers in the recruitment, selection and onboarding process within the region
  • Effectively partner with Employment Counsel, Policy and Governance and the business on workplace issues and legislative employment requirements to resolve any arising issues
  • Partner with HR Services and Operations on governance activities to support regulatory reporting and coordination of internal and external compliance and audit reviews
  • Partner with external Immigration Counsel on all immigration regulations and laws to ensure complete compliance for the region
  • Provide first‑line advice on minor Employee Relations matters and support the HRBP on issues that arise within the business
  • Interpret and advise on pension and benefits policies
  • Provide People Managers with guidelines, procedures and tools from HR Centres of Expertise to facilitate the delivery of all HR programmes
Performance Management and Capability Development
  • Provide guidance to Managers on the performance management process
  • Support People Managers to identify and resolve performance management issues, including escalation through the formal disciplinary process
Reporting & Regulatory
  • Prepare ad‑hoc reports
  • Support HR Analyst in preparing regular weekly and monthly reports
  • Develop reports to assist managers, HR Team and Functional Groups with workforce management
  • Support the Senior HRBP with gathering data for the Employee Survey
Process Improvement
  • Review processes and identify areas for improvement and potential solutions
  • Document processes and procedures and review them quarterly
  • Support Senior HRBP with ongoing benefits management and administration, including the annual renewal process
Cross‑Functional Relationships
  • This role interfaces with other HR counterparts across Europe, Asia and North America and works with Centre(s) of Expertise globally (e.g., rewards, pension, benefits) for subject‑matter expertise and HR policy interpretation
  • Interact regularly with all employees and People Leaders in Europe, HR Centres of Expertise (Talent Management, Compensation, Training and Development, ER, Policy and Governance, etc.)
  • Maintain external relationships with vendors, consultants, external legal counsel and industry network groups as appropriate

  • 2‑5 years of experience in an HR Generalist capacity with knowledge of HR concepts, policies and practices
  • CIPD Level 3 minimum, Level 5 preferable or equivalent
  • Understanding of HR governance/legislation and CIBC’s HR policies and programs to identify compliance and regulatory issues and proactively provide advice to managers and employees
  • Problem‑solving skills, ability to determine root cause and arrive at sound HR/Business solutions
  • Communication, interpersonal and relationship management skills to work effectively with business leaders and partners
  • Excellent computer skills; must manipulate spreadsheet data and have intermediate level skills in PowerPoint, Word and Excel
  • Knowledge of Workday and other HR systems
  • Ability to operate independently, prioritise tasks and address policy and programme implementation/customisation to meet client needs
