EMEA Operations Department

The EMEA Operations department supports MUFG’s core products and services including Banking (commercial/retail based payments, loans, derivatives, trade finance) and Securities (derivatives, FX, fixed income, equity etc). The role of Operations is to manage the interaction between Operations and MUFG’s internal clients (Front Office, Trading Desks etc) and has close ties with other support areas such as Legal, Compliance, Risk etc.

Main Purpose of the Role

The Fixed Income and Equity Trade Processing team provides support to MUFG EMEA Sales and Trading groups, facilitating accurate and timely settlement and providing pre‑trade support. The team acts as an important link between the Front Office, the market, customers and various back‑office areas and is key to ensuring transactions are correctly matched and risk accessed.

In addition, the role demands high level external client focus in order to efficiently satisfy their diverse range of requirements and provide a service which out performs our immediate competitors.

The role demands flexibility between tasks, attention to detail and the ability to perform a diverse multitude of pre‑execution tasks to support our internal and external client needs and requires strong Fixed Income and Equity experience and a clear understanding of front‑to‑back transaction trade flows and the associated controls (i.e. reconciliations).

Daily BAU Processing Responsibilities
  • Transaction Monitoring & Settlement: Ensure accurate and timely monitoring of front‑to‑back transaction flows and settlement across a wide range of Fixed Income and Equity products, including corporates, government bonds, repos, SBL, SPV settlements, triparty, cash equities and convertibles.
  • Triparty Settlements Oversight: Support the end‑to‑end processing, instruction and risk management of triparty settlements, ensuring alignment with internal controls and business requirements. Drive optimisation initiatives to enhance efficiency and accuracy across all triparty‑related activities.
  • Reconciliation & Break Resolution: Investigate and resolve reconciliation breaks and unmatched trades across all supported products and markets, ensuring all reconciliation activities are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Inbox Management & Stakeholder Communication: Monitor and manage team mailboxes daily, ensuring all queries are thoroughly investigated and resolved promptly, delivering high‑quality service to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Outsourced Team Oversight: Oversee and support the performance, communication and control standards of outsourced partners. Ensure that outsourced operations align with internal expectations, timelines and business objectives. Act as a key liaison between internal stakeholders and external vendors, fostering collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Market Borrow Monitoring: Oversee the processing, reporting and resolution of all market borrow positions, including the management of mandatory recalls.
  • Pair‑Off & Partial Settlements: Identify and execute pair‑off or partial settlement opportunities with counterparties, including the preparation and processing of payment/receipt instructions.
  • Process Improvement & Risk Mitigation: Continuously review and enhance operational processes and procedures in collaboration with the line manager. Identify and remediate any control gaps or inefficiencies within the framework.
  • Control & Compliance: Ensure all activities within the Transaction Processing team are executed in accordance with documented Standard Operating Procedures and internal control standards.
  • Subject Matter Expertise & Support: Act as a product specialist, providing subject matter expertise and day‑to‑day support across all BAU activities.
  • Cross‑Training & Knowledge Sharing: Fully engage in the department’s cross‑training initiatives, supporting knowledge transfer and team resilience.
  • Leadership & Team Culture: Serve as a role model within the team, demonstrating professionalism, accountability and a strong work ethic. Mentor new team members by designing and delivering structured training plans.
  • Strategic Input & Collaboration: Participate actively in senior staff meetings, contributing insights and recommendations on staffing, new business initiatives and ongoing BAU matters that impact the Transaction Processing function and the wider firm.
Work Experience
  • Strong product knowledge and F2B process understanding of investment banking flows.
  • Extensive settlements, triparty and reconciliation experience + understanding of reconciliation first principles.
  • Demonstrable stakeholder management skills.
