Location

South Oxhey near Watford, Welwyn Garden City and Luton

You will work from two of these sites as your regular pattern.

Hours

Flexible. Two to five days per week considered.

Full time and part time applicants welcome.

Salary

Up to £37,000 per year

About the Role

Herts Ability is looking for a confident and committed Approved Driving Instructor to join our specialist driving assessment team. This role suits someone who enjoys helping people stay safe and independent on the road and wants to use their skills in a more varied and rewarding setting.

You will work alongside Occupational Therapists to carry out fitness to drive assessments for people with a wide range of medical conditions and disabilities. You will guide clients through the process in a clear and calm way and help them understand how their condition may affect their driving.

The role also involves producing clear written reports that explain the outcome of each assessment and any lessons you provide. You will receive a structured induction and support to learn this part of the position.

You will deliver specialist driving lessons, support clients to use vehicle adaptations and help them understand what steps they need to take next. You will complete the Driving Mobility education programme within three years of joining.

What You Will Do

  • Carry out fitness to drive assessments with an Occupational Therapist
  • Complete eyesight and licence checks
  • Prepare assessment paperwork and the vehicle
  • Support the pre-drive interview
  • Conduct on road assessments while maintaining safety at all times
  • Take control of the vehicle when required
  • Deliver specialist driving lessons
  • Support clients to use a range of vehicle adaptations
  • Write clear, accurate and well structured reports
  • Provide calm, supportive feedback to clients
  • Work from two of our sites in South Oxhey, Welwyn Garden City and Luton
  • Provide advice by phone and email when needed

About You

  • You are a fully qualified Approved Driving Instructor (ADI)
  • You hold a full valid UK driving licence
  • You can adapt your communication to suit each client
  • You can produce clear written work or are ready to develop this skill
  • You are comfortable using Word and basic IT
  • You are patient, calm and supportive
  • You want to learn more about disability, medical conditions and adaptations

Experience supporting disabled clients is helpful but not essential.

We will provide full induction and ongoing support.

Our services include driving assessments, specialist driving tuition, passenger assessments, vehicle access guidance and child car seat support for disabled children.

Pre-Employment Checks

This role requires an Enhanced DBS check for adults and children.
