A leading organization is seeking a Senior Research Associate with expertise in Rights and Environmental Justice to join their Governance, Equity, and Well-being team. This role involves leading research projects in diverse geographical locations, including Africa, Asia, and Latin America, with a focus on collaborative engagement and capacity development. The ideal candidate will hold a Master's degree and have substantial experience in environmental justice, coupled with strong communication skills in English and Spanish. They will be responsible for designing research initiatives and facilitating engagement activities with various stakeholders.

N-24-61 Senior Research Associate, , Rights and Environmental Justice

CIFOR – ICRAF hosted by The InternationalPotato Center (CIP) is seeking for one (1) dedicated and motivated SeniorResearch Associate, , Rights and Environmental Justice to be part of the Governance, Equity and Well-being team.

About the role: Theselected candidate for this position will be the postholder to assist onactivities in projects that will include work in Africa, Asia and LatinAmerica. This position will provide research, engagement, and capacitydevelopment expertise to two projects - How are we doing? An adaptive learningtool for gender-responsive initiatives (funded by USAID) and Capacitydevelopment for equitable jurisdictional REDD+ (funded by CLUA) incollaboration with those projects’ key partners. The postholder will be basedin Peru or have the right to work in Peru. The role will include travel withinPeru and internationally.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and implementation of fieldand desk research, engagement and co-creation activities, as well as the rightsand social justice components across CIFOR-ICRAF’s projects.
  • Collaborate in the production of key projectoutputs, including coordination with CIFOR-ICRAF's partners and Communicationsteam.Design and deliver participatory research,participatory monitoring, and capacity-strengthening workshops relevant to theproject goals.
  • Design and facilitate engagement activities(ranging from co-creation methods to presentations at meetings and workshops)aligned with the project goals.
  • Lead, co-design, and participate in researchand engagement activities to achieve key outputs under an adaptive learningtool for gender-responsive initiatives.
  • Lead, co-design, and participate in researchand engagement activities to achieve key outputs under capacity development forequitable jurisdictional REDD+.
  • Translate and edit texts as required to meetthe projects' objectives.
  • Participate in administrative tasks,including reporting for both projects and grant writing to support theexpansion of relevant work.
  • Participate in team meetings and representboth research teams in relevant meetings/workshops as required by the projects'objectives.
Requirements

What are we looking for?

  • Master’s degree inAnthropology, Gender Studies, Geography, Law, Sociology or related SocialSciences.
  • Minimum of 8 years ofexperience applying rights and environmental justice approaches to research aswell as engagement on climate change, development and/or conservation fields inthe Peruvian Amazon.
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal andwritten communication skills in English and Spanish.
  • Practical experienceelaborating qualitative and quantitative research methods, diagnostics,evaluations, and trainings.
  • Demonstrated experienceconducting research in the Peruvian Amazon.
  • Demonstrated experienceconducting research, capacity development, and engagement with IndigenousPeoples and local communities; experience working with rural women is a plus.
  • Demonstrated experiencepublishing academic articles and/or research for impact dealing with rights andenvironmental justice themes/issues.
  • Demonstrated experienceorganizing and facilitating multi-stakeholder workshops.
  • Demonstrated experienceengaging with government and civil society actors to disseminate research inPeru at national and subnational levels. Demonstrated awareness of Peru’s climate change andforest governance and policy context/priorities; awareness of REDD+ processesoutside Peru are a plus.
  • Generouscompensation package commensurate with experience.
  • Fixed-termemployee contract for one year with possibility of renewal.
