The International Potato Center (CIP) is seeking a highly skilled, results-oriented Logistics Specialist, based in Nairobi, Kenya.

About CIP

CIP is a not-for-profit international agricultural research organization with a global mandate to conduct research on potatoes, sweet potatoes, Andean root and tuber crops, and sustainable management of natural resources. CIP’s vision is to contribute to the fulfillment of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), particularly those related to poverty, hunger, child and maternal mortality, and sustainable development. Headquartered in Lima, Peru, CIP operates across Africa, Asia, and Latin America. As a member of the One CGIAR, CIP is part of a global research partnership dedicated to transforming food, land, and water systems in a climate crisis, collaborating with numerous partners including research institutes, civil society, academia, development organizations, and the private sector.

About the role

The selected candidate will be part of the Logistics team under the supervision of the Logistics Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Support global logistics operations, following standard processes to ensure effective service delivery.
  2. Build strong relationships with global partners and senior managers to align functional objectives.
  3. Assist in drafting tender documents, ITT, RFP, solicitations, and bid comparisons; organize and record minutes during procurement meetings; process purchase orders and contracts.
  4. Coordinate with the logistics team to optimize operational transactions, service levels, supply-chain efficiency, and cost management.
  5. Manage logistics suppliers, fostering effective partnerships to improve value; source and evaluate suppliers locally and globally through market research and networking.
  6. Design and implement process improvements to standard global logistics procedures.
  7. Respond to technical queries and support requests promptly, maintaining high client service standards.
  8. Compile and analyze logistics data to monitor trends, opportunities, and challenges in areas such as supply chain management, sourcing, and transportation.
  9. Ensure compliance with CIP health and safety policies.
  10. Oversee bidding processes, ensuring transparency and effective contract negotiations.
  11. Perform any other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Procurement, or a related field.
  • Procurement certification from KISM, CIPS, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in a similar role.
  • Experience in international procurement and managing multi-donor procurement processes.
  • Strong procurement and supplier management skills.
  • Excellent client service orientation and a cooperative attitude.
  • Knowledge of ERP systems and management of product and supplier master files.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Proficiency in English and Swahili, both written and oral.
