Job description

Senior Researcher/Post-Doc Researcher

The University of Turku is enhancing its analytical capabilities in metabolomics by recruiting a post-doctoral researcher to work on mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) using the cutting-edge timsTOF flex MALDI-2 platform. This position focuses on developing new methods for MALDI-2 imaging and integrating them with various spatial omic techniques to explore the brain’s immune system changes following traumatic brain injury.

Required Qualifications:
  • PhD in analytical chemistry, metabolomics or a related field.
  • Proficient in operating and troubleshooting high-end mass spectrometry instrumentation.
  • Experience in method development for metabolomics/lipidomics.
  • Strong motivation, initiative, and independence.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Strong publication record in international journals.
  • Hands-on experience with imaging mass spectrometry methods.
  • Experience with multimodal imaging and/or spatial transcriptomics.
  • Familiarity with software such as Topspin, Analyst, Compass, MassHunter, MS-DIAL, mzMine, MassLynx.
  • Proven experience in implementing new technologies.
  • Project reporting and funding application experience.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Daily operation and troubleshooting of the timsTOF flex MALDI-2 instrumentation for mass spectrometry imaging.
  • Development of workflows to integrate MSI with spatial transcriptomics and/or light microscopy.
  • Documentation and reporting on research findings.
  • Collaborating with current and new PhD students on image-related research matters.
