Position Summary:
A Safety Manager is responsible for developing, leading and implementing the health, safety and environmental programs at the Newbuild operational organisation, as part of the shipbuilding process with shipyards and key stakeholders. Position main focus is to prevent and reduce fires during the newbuilding process, accidents and other injuries that are related to work. Position requires capabilities to design and monitor safety programs using data trends and make necessary changes to the program such as increasing safety measures when needed. Safety Manager looks to create proactive safety cultures at workplaces where employees feel comfortable to voice their concerns.
Key functions at the Safety Manager role is to establish joint culture and processes with the shipyards and key stakeholders to have preventive forward-looking measures to minimize incidents during the projects. Safety Manager role is cross-functional between various locations and Management teams, in all Newbuild projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsibility of internal development, implementation and monitoring of Safety processes, standards and best practices in all Newbuild Site Offices and related yards.
- Verification and implementation of Safety processes supported by Project Management, site office teams and as far as possible with internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaboration with internal key partners such as, but not limited to, Miami Risk Management and Medical team, Solutions team, Brands Safety representative, Operations Safety officers and Business Excellence team.
- Collaboration with all yards related to safety processes development and implementation. Joint processes monitoring and reporting various phases of the projects.
- Leading internal Safety training to our Newbuild team and monitor training needs & requirements.
- Strong team builder, works in a seamless manner with various stakeholders.
- Close collaboration with classification societies at the safety related items.
- Ensuring safety related mitigative actions are taking place and are followed as agreed between various parties.
- Develops, together with internal key stakeholders as well as with yard and other external stakeholders, KPIs to track the good progress of the projects' safety aspects.
- Coordinate safety resources in various projects, jointly with the project management teams and Site office Leads.
- Supports and participates in safety verifications in various Newbuild locations.
- Leads development and implementation of quality, risk and safety standards/guidelines internally and externally within collaboration of defined key partners.
- Spends time walking onboard the vessels as they are under construction, to understand safety situations in various projects.
- Visit external production locations and develop the same safety processes with external production locations.
- Support and align processes and way of working with Brand and Solutions counterparts.
- Support Brands operations and Solution in drydocking quality, risk and safety processes.
- Maintains good relations with shipyard counterparts.
- Close collaboration with the TK and suppliers to ensure safety aspects are followed and mitigative actions implemented.

- Studies, collects, shares, compares, stores statistical information, and analyzes various ships and areas bringing forth observations.
- Creates presentations and reports for design management and project management.
- Regularly conducts reviews to check that operational safety aspects are fulfilled as per standards, guidelines, rules and following best practices.
- Participate in official internal and external safety audits as lead of safety, as defined in the job description.
- Develop and update health, safety and environmental programs.
- Promote a proactive safety culture.
- Create metrics for measuring the effectiveness of safety programs.
- Identify and communicate workplace hazards with staff.
- Have a strong understanding of safety regulations.
- Participates in/conducts accident/fire/flooding investigations, reviews and root cause analyses.
- Facilitates safety related relationships with key partners and stakeholders.
- Maintains and periodically reviews risk management systems and tools.
- Participates in meetings with others in the project management team.
- Conducts on-site workplace inspections to identify workplace hazards.
- Works with individual facility supervisors to improve their operational safety.
- Coordinates training for safety and environmental programs.
- Identifies undesirable trends and makes recommendations for corrective actions.
- Implements and maintains emergency response plans, including crisis management escalation reports.
- Stays current in industry trends and innovation through research and market knowledge in the respective areas of Safety and environment.
- Is committed to extensive travelling during the year and has the capability to spend long periods of time in outside locations, for example during ship deliveries.

FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works in close cooperation with Project Manager and project finance team.
- Works with senior management on budgetary planning.
- Coordinates the budget for health and safety programs.
- Approves all expenses and payments made by direct reports.
Key skills & experience required:
- Is highly motivated, efficient, and organized. Has a fundamental understanding of time management, with priorities being established by supervisor. Works on multiple projects, and multiple tasks under various team members. Has a strong ability to maintain focus.
- Ability to travel internationally or domestically more than 50% of the time.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with strong ability to effectively communicate with all levels of management and employees, across diverse cultures around the world.
- Requires a high level of written and verbal communication skills to convey concepts and requirements of the team to technical and non-technical individuals. Is effective at simplifying complexity.
- Requires strong teamwork and collaborative leadership skills to develop rapport within the department, with other departments, and externally.
- Possesses self-motivation with the ability to mobilize people and resources to action, within a high-paced environment.
- Good ability to proactively identify problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
- Possesses logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
- Able to work in a multicultural working environment and willingness to travel extensively.
- Working knowledge of computer software for communication and presentations.
Qualifications:
In-depth 10 years’ experience in Safety focused positions at the shipyard or onboard positions.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in Marine, Marine industry occupational health and safety manager or higher roles.
- Military or Military based Safety related functions, that are in or linked to Marine environment are considered a benefit.
- Deep knowledge of fire procedures and workplace health & Safety are considered a benefit.
- Minimum of 10 years working in Safety related positions at the shipyards, onboard cruise ships preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years managing or in a team lead position in large projects.
- Minimum of 3-5 years managing direct reports preferred.
