Position Description

QIAGEN is looking for a Maintenance Manager to join a multidisciplinary team within the Maintenance department. The Manufacturing Maintenance Manager will lead the coordination of the internal tasks and external preventative and corrective maintenance, he/she will oversee all aspects of maintenance operations within our medical devices factory. Will be responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of machinery and equipment to support uninterrupted production while adhering to strict regulatory and quality standards. The Maintenance Manager will lead a team of maintenance technicians, ensuring their training, development, and adherence to safety protocols, leading the troubleshooting of complex mechanical and electrical issues as it relates to manual and semi-automated manufacturing equipment.

Principal Job and responsibilities:

  • Maintenance Planning and Execution:
  • Develop and implement maintenance plans for optimal machinery functionality within ISO clean room standards.
  • Schedule and prioritize maintenance tasks to minimize production downtime.
  • Conduct regular equipment inspections and provide emergency support for repairs to maintain operational efficiency.
  • Team Leadership and Development:
  • Lead, mentor, and train maintenance technicians for effective and safe performance.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to foster improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and promote a culture of safety within the team.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
  • Ensure all maintenance activities meet FDA regulations and ISO standards.
  • Maintain accurate records for regulatory inspections.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Collaborate with other departments to implement best practices and new technologies.
  • Budget Management:
  • Develop and manage the maintenance budget, including cost control measures.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality and safety.
  • Coordinate with vendors for maintenance services and spare parts procurement.
  • Evaluate vendor performance and negotiate contracts for cost-effectiveness and quality service.

Position Requirements

  • Background: bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field in a scientific/technical discipline preferred (Automation, Mechanics, Electronics or similar).
  • Proven experience in maintenance management, preferably within a manufacturing environment, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Excellent leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a diverse team of maintenance technicians.
  • Experience in design and maintenance of complex manufacturing or scientific equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve and troubleshoot technical issues/equipment.
  • Demonstrated sense of urgency when carrying out critical tasks
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in budget management and cost control measures.
  • Propensity for paying close attention to details.
  • Multi-disciplinary technical knowledge in some of the following areas: PLC programming, heat-management, pneumatics, SolidWorks, machining (e.g. CNC).
  • Good command of English.
  • Experience in in Vitro Diagnostics (IVD), knowledge of regulatory requirements (IVDD 98/79/EC, ISO 13485, IEC 62304), and experience in Project Management are a plus.
