Sr. Research Supply & Metrology Engineer (m/f/d)
We are looking for a Sr. Research Supply & Metrology Engineer (m/f/d) in Aachen, Germany, to support the development of heart assist systems by ensuring quality and precision of parts, assemblies, fixtures and tools.

This role involves working with engineers and suppliers to align on specifications, perform first article inspections, and sustain measurement systems and calibration processes.
Responsibilities
- Work with engineers and suppliers to improve part specifications for required quality and precision while maintaining manufacturability and cost sensitivity.
- Challenge tolerance specifications with a focus on design for manufacture (DfM), cost reduction, and measurability.
- Perform first-article inspections and incoming inspections of research quantities.
- Collaborate with the team to identify critical design aspects and related CAD specifications.
- Investigate options for direct measurement of critical dimensions and develop/improve measurement systems.
- Assist in testing new parts to ensure they meet specifications.
- Document parts, sub-assemblies, and fixtures according to quality system needs.
- Identify drawings/documentation improvement requirements.
- Provide and store test/measurement reports according to Abiomed-J&J standards and requirements.
- Assist in supplier qualification and organize calibration and maintenance with required documentation.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Medical Engineering or similar, or equivalent experience with 5+ years in related fields.
- Fluency in German and English.
- 3+ years of experience with 3D CAD (SolidWorks).
- Advanced knowledge of measurement technology and quality inspection/qualification processes including first article inspection.
- Advanced knowledge of GD&T per ISO 22081 and surface definition per ISO 21920.
- Solid understanding of materials for med-tech applications.
- Strong ability to interpret 3D geometries; hands-on mentality.
- Experience in mechanical manufacturing (lathing, milling, drilling, grinding).
