Team mission

We are seeking an Engineering Manager for the Business Operations Intelligence team to lead people, drive technical and business decisions, and help develop our data capabilities.

The team’s mission is to empower the business departments at GetYourGuide to make data-driven decisions by delivering robust data and reporting solutions. It also aims to drive operational excellence by building tools that make the business more efficient.

As the Engineering Manager, you will assume line management of data engineers and take ownership of:

• Building relationships with the Finance, Supply, and Care teams to understand customer problems and develop tailored data and reporting solutions.
• Enabling strategic business initiatives such as Acquisition, Pricing, Availability, and more.
• Managing financial reporting, metrics, data models, and core data pipelines.
• Establishing data discoverability and quality technologies and processes to enhance impact and trust in data.
• Developing a competitive data strategy to improve customer experience, support product teams, and increase operational efficiency.

You will:

This role reports to the Director of Engineering, Data Platform and is primarily measured according to the performance of their team. We divide their responsibility into the following areas:

• Be responsible for all hiring and performance management topics on the Engineering side helping your engineers reach their full potential!
• Partner closely with your business partners to manage the roadmap and portfolio allocation to drive impactful projects.
• Find pragmatic solutions to complex technical challenges that span across multiple services, platforms and domains of our Marketplace.
• Collaborate with stakeholders in the broader business on initiatives.

Who you are:

• 3-5 years of direct people management in data teams
• Customer-centric prioritization and data-driven decision-making
• Passionate about people and business impact
• Data Engineering or similar experience comparable to a Senior Engineer with excellent data modelling, SQL, Python and reporting stack experience
• Experience with technical excellence (operations, on-call, quality)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
• Experience with Business Operations, Supply or Financial business domains
• A statistical background is a plus
• Experience with large-scale data processing technologies
• Background or experience in software engineering, with a focus on owning end-to-end systems and services
